Isleworth benefit cheat cornered by council

Posted by Jessica Thomas on Jan 18, 10 03:56 PM in Crime

A benefit cheat who claimed more than £860 in housing allowances has been prosecuted by the council.

Kevin Richardson, 50, of Worton Road, Isleworth, was found guilty of fraud after failing to notify Hounslow council that his job-seekers allowance had ended, meaning he was no longer automatically entitled to claim housing benefit.

Richardson was ordered by Feltham Magistrates' Court to complete 120 hours of community service, pay back costs of £500 and to repay the benefits falsely claimed, back in full.

The council's Executive Member for Finance, Councillor Gerald McGregor said: "Benefit fraud is never tolerated.

"Too many taxpayers are exasperated by people who think that they can get away with it.

"The London Borough of Hounslow is dedicated to a robust and resilient approach to criminality.

"So anyone who has concerns about their situation or has information about benefit cheating should contact the council immediately. This may avoid enforcement action.

"Our officers work around the clock to catch benefit cheats and enforce the law.

"The message to anyone who is considering acting in such a dishonest fashion is that you will be caught and you will pay the penalty."
