Brothel busted in Twickenham Road Isleworth

A brothel where neighbours were bothered by prostitutes exposing themselves in the window and late night noise was raided by undercover police.

Police and councillors were inundated with complaints about the "well established" sex den near Isleworth train station in Twickenham Road, after an increase in trade led to neighbours being woken up to the noise of punters hammering on the door.

Undercover offices posing as customers, raided the property above Sabre Wines on November 19, forcing the sex workers to move on.

"It's been going on for years, there was no shame," said Syon councillor, Caroline Andrews.

"People have told me that women would stand in the window nude.

"We have always had our suspicions but now it has all come out."

Desperate men even recently smashed the sign at Sabre wines in a drunken effort to gain entry to the brothel, with the female shop keeper also being mistaken for a prostitute and propositioned at one point.

Sergeant Peter Murphy of Syon Safer Neighbourhood team headed the undercover team that busted the seedy operation.

"We've had complaints over the last three months but it seems to have been going on for quite some time," said Sgt Murphy.

"The flat just had a normal door on the outside however there was CCTV set up and just inside the door there was a metal security gate which is normally seen in drug dens."

On entering the flat the plain clothed policemen were taken into a "waiting room" with mirrors all over the walls, where two prostitutes wearing only dressing gowns sat with a dressing up box full of costumes such as nurses outfits.
There was also one brothel maid who organised the girls.

"They told us there were three or four other girls who worked there and other brothel maids, however we have not managed to trace the people running the operation," said Sgt Murphy.

"It seemed the landlords who rented the flat out had no idea what it was being used for."

The Italian and South American women working there were spoken to "at length" by female officers who established that they were not selling their bodies "under duress" and the women were served notices forcing the business to close.

A neighbour who wished not to be named said: "I've lived opposite the property for eight or nine years now and was aware that a brothel had been closed down there before.

"I know it's been going on for a while but it seems to have got busier and I keep getting woken up by men hammering on the door trying to get in.

"The sort of men approaching the house weren't your average Joe Bloggs on the street."

"I have nothing against the girls trying to earn a living but nobody wants that on their doorstep.

A sign has been posted on the flat's door saying, "we have now moved from these premises", implying, said Sgt Muphy, that "they may have set up base somewhere else".

Sgt Murphy urged anyone who suspect they may be living near a brothel to call police on 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
