Death crash grandad escapes jail
The Isleworth grandad who fell asleep at the wheel killing his wife and granddaughter was sentenced in a New Zealand court today.
Michael Eades, 62, pleaded guilty to three counts of careless driving causing death and was sentenced to 150 hours community work and banned from driving for a year.
Three year-old Iva Harper and her grandmother Sera Eades, 60, all of The Woodlands in Isleworth, died when Mr Eades, known as Geoff, hit a power pole in New Brighton, New Zealand in September.
His lawyer, Garth Gallaway said: "It will be a long recovery, physically and emotionally."
Mr Gallaway also said his client wanted to thank the police and ambulance staff for their assistance at the time of the accident.
