Motivational speaker at West Thames
A teenager who survived a murder attempt in his native Zimbabwe spoke movingly of his ordeal at an inspirational event at West Thames College.
Acie Marshall, 19, visited the Isleworth college last week to talk to Level 1 Engineering students from the MYPAL scheme (Motivating Young People to Achieve through Learning).
He told how he survived a murder attempt by a gang in his native Zimbabwe before moving to England in 2003 as part of his recovery.
Following the tragic death of his mother, Acie was adopted by a British family and gained top grades in his GCSEs and A-Levels.
"Young people today have the drive to succeed but simply need to identify a just cause," he said. "I came to West Thames College to show the MYPAL students that with the right focus, anything, and any dream, is completely within their reach."
Acie, who is a Member of Youth Parliament for Kensington and Chelsea, has also recently been accepted as a student at the world-famous Harvard University in Boston, USA.
In his role as Youth MP, Acie regularly meets with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, as well as key figures from the House of Lords, to discuss youth policy and legislation.
