The Principal of West Thames College has handed over the reins after nine years in charge of the further education institution.

Thalia Marriot retired this summer and has been succeeded by Marjorie Semple, who has been Vice Principal since 2001.

Ms Semple has a wealth of experience in the further education sector having already worked at Kingsway College, South Thames College and Brooklands College.

"I am delighted to have been appointed as the new principal at West Thames College," said Ms Semple.

"It is an exciting time to be taking over. Our biggest challenge is the development of our two sites over the next few years at a cost of around £90million, which will provide state of the art buildings on London Road, Isleworth, and in Feltham."

Ms Semple was educated in Scotland and graduated from St Andrews University before coming to London in 1977 to teach French.

Linda Penny, Chair of Governors, said: "The Board of Governors is delighted to appoint Marjorie Semple to this role. Her performance as Vice Principal has been impressive and she has clearly demonstrated her enthusiasm and commitment to West Thames College and its strategic objectives.

"Marjorie's extensive experience and demonstrable leadership qualities will help the College to build on its strong reputation as a high quality education and work skills provider."
