Football cages thrown out

Posted by Lucy Proctor on Jun 17, 08 01:12 PM in Local Authority

Cheers rang out as controversial plans for five-a-side pitches at a disused sports ground were rejected last night.

Families claimed floodlights and noisy players using 10 football 'cages' at the former Centaurs RFC ground in Oaklands Avenue, Isleworth, would make their lives unbearable.

But the applicant Goals insisted its plans were the only way to save the Grade II-listed Art Deco pavilion on the grounds, which is badly in need of renovation.

Councillors narrowly rejected the proposals at last night's meeting of the Sustainable Development Committee.
