Hot stuff helps African flood victims

curry-night.jpgHungry parishioners of St John's Church descended on Euro Balti in Twickenham Road for a special 'hot stuff' charity curry night in aid of crisis-hit people in Mozambique.

The big-hearted crowd packed out the 50-seater Isleworth restaurant, which donated its facilities, and raised £312 in the process, with £6 of every £10 ticket going directly to the cause.

"The proceeds will provide much needed funds for rebuilding homes in Ngofi village devastated by recent flooding and so will be very much appreciated," said organiser Jonathan Palmer, as he thanked Euro Balti for its "generous help" and all those who attended the April event.

Floods in the south-east African country in the past two years have killed at least 30 people and displaced more than 120,000 from their homes.

"As part of the Isleworth community, we felt it was so important to get involved in helping to support this project," added Ilyas Miah, owner of the restaurant.

The St John's Road church is twinned with the remote and poverty-stricken Ngofi parish in northern Mozambique, and has already raised thousands of pounds for goodwill projects.
